Johannesburg is the economic heartland of South Africa. It was to Johannesburg that throughout the past century people came to make a living and for the lucky few to make great wealth. Not for nothing was Johannesburg known as the city of gold! Today, for many thousands of people, Johannesburg remains a place for people to start a new life and earn a living. Johannesburg is a symbol of a better life for all.
The name “Jika” is a Zulu word which literally translated means to turn. We chose this name because of its obvious links to the turnaround of the inner city and to our focus on turning previously poorly run and neglected buildings back to their former glory.
JikaCity reflects our core values - a sense of excitement about what we
do, our belief that the solution to South Africa’s housing shortage
lies in the cities, and our support for and belief in the turnaround of
our inner cities and our buildings. We are passionate about what we do
and the contribution we can make to the city and to the lives of
individuals residing in our buildings.
